DBFA reached out to survey residents in the downtown Baltimore area to quantify current involvement in Children's Programming, as well as further solidify our understanding of our constituents' programming needs. Please see the full results of our survey below.

Administered by the Downtown Baltimore Family Alliance in January 2010

Total Completed Survey: 91 (84.3%)

Residence:
  • Southeast Baltimore: 41.7%
  • South Baltimore Peninsula: 43.5%
  • Central Downtown (includes Mount Vernon and Bolton Hill): 8.3%
  • Southwest Baltimore: 6.5%


Family Profile:
  • Number of children in household: one child (54.6%); two children (38.9%); three children (5.6%)
  • Ages of children in household: 0-2 (76.9%); 3-4 (33.3%); 5-6 (17.6%); 7-8 (5.6%); 9-12 (2.8%)
  • Grades entering in Fall 2008: Not in grade school yet (86.1%); Kindergarten (17.6%); 1st Grade (2.8%); 2nd Grade (5.6%); 3rd Grade (0.0%); 4th Grade (1.9%); 5th Grade (0.9%)

After-School Programming
  • 6.4% have a child who attends an after-school program
  • 66.7% participate in a program through their school; 16.7% participate in a program through Baltimore City Recreation & Parks; 50.0% participate in a program through a private outside organization
  • 50% of parents prefer that the program take place at their child’s school; 50% say it does not matter
  • 50% are satisfied with their child’s afterschool program; 33.3% are undecided; 16.7% are very satisfied
  • 6.9% of children do not participate in an after-school program because their parent(s) have not found a program they are satisfied with


Local Centers for Programming
  • Recreation Centers: 57% of children have never participated in a program at a City Recreation Center; 20.4% rarely participate; 20.4% sometimes participate; 2.2% often participate (Satisfaction level: N/A (60.2%); undecided (22.6%); satisfied (7.5%); dissatisfied (7.5%); very dissatisfied (2.2%))
