Safety City offers Baltimore students a hands-on traffic safety course
10/5/2011 6:58:00 AM by Claire

In Druid Hill Park, a miniature city of streets, signs, and signals teaches students to understand, navigate, and obey traffic laws in order to increase their personal safety.

Open April through October, students from prekindergarten to fifth grade are able to visit Safety City and learn about pedestrian and bike safety in a fun, interactive manner that includes riding through a special bike course to test their newly learned skills. Children from local schools, day care facilities, and youth organizations attend the course free of charge. During the months when the outdoor City is not open, instructors bring the safety program to interested schools or facilities.

Safety City’s educational materials and incentive items are provided by the Baltimore City Department of Transportation, the Maryland State Highway Administration, AAA, and SAFE KIDS Baltimore.
