DBFA strives to preserve and increase our urban green space. We work with other local agencies and governments to create family-friendly places.

Pierce's Park
Pierce's Park, proposed for the Inner Harbor along Eastern Avenue across from the Pier 5 Hotel, is a joint project of the Waterfront Partnership and the Downtown Baltimore Family Alliance. As part of the Waterfront Partnership's "Healthy Harbor" Sustainability Initiative, the park will be built with indigenous trees, native plantings, pervious surfaces for walkways, and bioswales, which will incorporate water collected on the adjacent building's roof. The park is named for the late Pierce John Flanigan, III, a Waterfront Partnership board member and big supporter of the project, and is slated to open fall 2011.

Rash Field
Rash Field is the ten-acre waterfront space located between the Maryland Science Center and the Ritz Carlton. The Rash Field Task Force, of which DBFA is a member, was created by Councilman William Cole and includes representatives from the Baltimore Development Corporation, the Federal Hill Neighborhood Association, The Greater Baltimore Committee, the Waterfront Partnership, the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, and the Mayor's Office. As the plans are developed, DBFA will work hard to ensure that this space is developed into a world-class, multigenerational, family-friendly attraction that serves not only the families who live downtown but also those who visit the Inner Harbor.
