The Baltimore Montessori operates two full-time preschools that operate year-round, both of which are located within walking neighborhoods. The Fell’s Point and Locust Point schools serve children 2–5 years old, including those who are not yet potty trained. The curriculum utilizes traditional Montessori materials to teach practical life skills, sensorial skills, math, language, and culture. The schools offer Spanish as a second language, music, art, cooking, and playtime in their private outdoor playgrounds. A morning snack of fruit and milk, lunch, and an afternoon snack are also provided. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. at the Fell’s Point location and 7:30 a.m–6 p.m. at the Locust Point location.

Bolton Hill Nursery School and Daycare

Bolton Hill Nursery School is located on the second floor of the Brown Memorial Church in Bolton Hill, serving children 2–5 years old. The preschool groups the children by age into three classrooms where they experience play-based and hands-on learning activities that promote art, music, nature, and creative movement. Children also engage in multiple activities and field trips that have included apple picking, a farmer’s market, the zoo, a ride on the light rail, and other venues, such as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Lyric Opera House. Half-day nursery programs and flexible three-, four-, and five-day programs are available. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.

Christ Church Nursery School

Christ Church Nursery School is located in Federal Hill and offers a preschool program for children 2–5 years old. The program’s mission is to provide education in a spiritual environment while nurturing the intellectual, social-emotional, and physical growth of the children. The curriculum focuses on play-based, hands-on explorative learning through circle and story times, music, art, quiet play, outdoor play, and chapel. Children 2–3 years old attend the nursery school in the morning hours for two and three days per week, while the 4- and 5-year-olds attend Monday through Thursday for traditional school hours. Prospective parents may schedule an appointment to observe a class. The nursery school typically maintains a wait list. Hours of operation are 9 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

Grace and St. Peter’s School

Grace & St. Peter’s is an independent Episcopal day school located in the Mount Vernon neighborhood offering a preschool program for incoming 3-year-olds and continuing through the fourth grade. The preschool promotes play-based learning and teacher-guided projects to help acquire knowledge and experience with art, social studies, music, and science. The children also take frequent walks to nearby locations, such as the Mount Vernon Square for a picnic lunch, as well as participate in field trips to the farm and zoo. Lunch and snacks are provided. The school year runs from September through mid-June. Daily instruction is held from 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; however, hours of operation are 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. to include optional before- and after-school care.

Martini Lutheran Preschool

Martini Lutheran Preschool is located in Federal Hill, serving children 3–5 years old. Valuing a child’s natural curiosity and perspectives, the preschool promotes experimental and explorative learning in a Christian environment. The program provides daily circle time with songs and Bible stories, and children are encouraged to participate in group activities. Parents may choose morning or full-day programs that occur two or three days per week. All children must be potty trained prior to enrollment. Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

Our Lady of Fatima School

Our Lady of Fatima School, located on E. Pratt Street near the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, enrolls children 3–5 years old in their preschool program and continues through the eighth grade. The school follows the standards-based curriculum as outlined in the Archdiocese Baltimore Course of Study and promotes self-directed inquiry and hands-on experiences in their pre-k programs. Social skills are stressed in the 3- and 4-year-old program, while creative and critical thinking skills are initiated in kindergarten. Regular school hours are 8 a.m.–3 p.m. with early morning care beginning at 6:30 a.m. and after-school care running 3–6 p.m.

Parents and Children Together (PACT)

The PACT program offers an opportunity for parents to come together weekly to study and share information about the growth and development of their preschooler while children participate in a licensed program. The times vary depending upon the age of the child: 2-year-olds attend for 1.5 hours on Tuesday mornings; 3-year-olds attend Monday and Thursday morning; 4-year-olds attend Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons. This is a part-time program and requires parent involvement. 

Patterson Park Montessori School

The Patterson Park Montessori is located in the Patterson Park neighborhood, serving children 2–5 years old. The school’s curriculum includes work periods that utilize Montessori materials, in addition to circle time, Spanish, music, art, book time, and outdoor play at Patterson Park. Children are encouraged to make choices based upon their interests and knowledge and are given clear guidelines for acceptable behavior that is positively and consistently reinforced. While the core school hours are 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., extended care is available in the morning at 7:30 and in the afternoon until 5:30 p.m.
