- We work on intiatives to improve public education, green space, public safety, retail, and other areas that make downtown Baltimore a great place to raise families.
- We serve as a source of education, information, and social connection and support for families living downtown, as well as a source of information about downtown family events for visitors from outside the city center.

- We facilitate the development of youth activities, like sporting leagues and creative arts classes, that enrich the lives of children and facilitate friendships across socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic lines.
- We hold free, public events for local children, such as our Easter Egg Hunt in Patterson Park and Harvest Festival in Westshore Park.
- We unite parents by facilitating playgroups, mothers-to-be groups, book clubs, and other forums where local parents can connect with one another.
- We conduct a parenting seminar series to educate parents on good parenting practices, with a special focus on urban family living.
- We hold social events for parents to meet and enjoy some time away from the kids, such as movie nights and happy hours.
- We assemble information about downtown events and family activities and circulate these to local families.
- We maintain an online communication network for parents to share information and discuss issues related to improving the quality of life downtown.
- We seek new public spaces for families to congregate, such as a family community center in the downtown core and family-friendly spaces on Rash Field and the Harbor East Promenade.
- We work with government, neighborhood associations, and non-profits on initiatives to enhance the quality of life for families and other residents. These initiatives are aimed at having additional parks and playgrounds, safer streets, and better public transportation, as well as more family-friendly businesses, housing, and fiscal policies.
- We provide information, on our website and at festivals, to current and prospective residents about the benefits of raising families downtown.
- We compile detailed profiles of family life in downtown neighborhoods to disseminate on our website, in order to promote these neighborhoods to prospective residents.
- We coordinate information and resources between the various downtown Baltimore neighborhoods by appointing neighborhood representatives, who serve as bridges between neighborhood associations and the organization.
- We identify community parent leaders, who facilitate connections between families within each neighborhood.
- We support initiatives aimed at developing strong education options, from early childcare and preschool to elementary, middle, and high schools.
- We strive for public schools that serve diverse populations and that rank among the state's best for scholastic excellence, facilities, resources, and diversity.
- We appoint parent liaisons for local public schools, so that prospective parents can receive information about schools directly from current parents, and we maintain detailed profiles of public schools to disseminate on our website.
- We hold an annual school fair, which includes both public schools and early childhood programs, to provide parents information about the strong local school options available.
- We represent and support all downtown Baltimore families, regardless of race, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, or socioeconomic class.
- We make the majority of DBFA events, such as our children's holiday events, parent seminars, and parent support groups free and open to the public so that they will be accessible to families of all means.
- We encourage the development of local children's programming that is free or income-scaled so that all downtown families can take advantage, and we work with Head Start programs, public schools, and public libraries to get information to all families about free programs and activities for kids throughout the city center.
- We support efforts to preserve socioeconomic and racial diversity in our schools, so that all students benefit from the improvements that come with community development, instead of forcing low-income students to low-performing schools in other neighborhoods.
- We engage in public service events in which parents serve alongside their children to both assist our neighbors and model public service to the next generation.
- We serve as a volunteer clearinghouse, so that other urban-focused charitable and non-profit organizations can call upon our membership to support their work.
- We support efforts to protect and create affordable housing downtown and to combat homelessness.
- We recognize that young families are invaluable contributors to our city's economic and social vibrancy.
- We support existing local business and promote the establishment of more local stores, to satisfy the wants and needs of families without forcing them to leave the city limits.
- We work with real estate developers and urban planners to ensure housing developments that cater to families and streetscapes that allow for active family living.
- We undertake initiatives aimed at advancing good environmental stewardship, including efforts to promote safe, walkable streets, bike routes, reliable public transportation, and plenty of green space.
- We inform families about ways in which they can reduce their environmental footprint and raise children in healthy environs.
